In 1992, Julie Markfield and her husband Greg launched a branding and design company in a small room in their home. They outgrew the home office space just a few years later and relocated to a 3,200-square-foot space on Raymond Avenue in Pasadena, a place they’ve been based for the last 20 years.

Since it was established, the company, CMg Design, has become an award-winning agency with expertise in a number of areas including strategic and marketing communications, and web design and development. It has also been a key player in the team determining design aspects for Mercury Insurance.

CMg Design achieved another significant milestone last year when it celebrated its 25th anniversary. The company last year also decided to become one of our sponsors.

Since 2017, CMg Design has donated its design expertise to TEDxPasadena, something we’re extremely grateful for. At our conference last year, the company designed the foldout infographic map and guide to speakers. For TRANSFORM, CMg Design will be updating the infographic map.

RISE, our conference last year, was the first TEDxPasadena event Julie attended and sponsored, and she said it was a highlight of 2017 for her.

“The sessions were inspiring and informative, and I enjoyed meeting so many fabulous people,” she said. “I am proud that CMg Design was able to contribute to the overall excellence of the event though our work on the infographic map.”

Julie, who serves as principal and creative director at CMg Design, said she decided to become one of our sponsors because of the natural fit between her company and TEDxPasadena.

“We are all about that ‘D’ for design in TED, and we share TEDxPasadena’s enthusiasm for and commitment to Pasadena,” she said. “On a personal level, I am drawn to its focus on celebrating and empowering women.”

Julie added that she believes the work we do is important.

“Some of the most exciting ideas and innovations come out of cross-pollination among diverse individuals and organizations,” she said. “Different perspectives — based in age, expertise, industry, background, etc., — energize the discussion. There is so much division in the US today that entities dedicated to fostering conversations and collaborations across various spectrums are more important than ever.”

We’re excited to be partnering with CMg Design again for a second year. To learn more about the company, click here.
